I’m not asking Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries become Zohran Mamdani, but could they be just a little bit more like Brad Lander?
In the past two weeks, we seemed to watch Brad Lander evolve in front of our very eyes: From a measured civil servant who releases long, detailed reports, to a ball-busting, rollercoaster-riding mayoral candidate who practices civil disobedience and curses out Cuomo.

Now here’s an explanation we can all get our heads around…
LLMs are less like Jeopardy contestants (who “win” if they get the right answer) and more like Family Feud contestants (who “win” if they guess the most popular answer).
Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.
