For the past two weeks, I've been working as a lab assistant for a PHD student looking at pyrolastic flow physics through experimental designs using a special flume.

If I get permission, I'd like to share some interesting things and photos 😁

Just finished with my my risk and ethics assessment for my undergraduate dissertation (fingers crossed no revisions 🤞).

Suffice to say I am really ready to start my topic (although I have to wait at least another month)
If all things go well it'll be interesting!

(I'll talk more about it below)

I love environmental science being multidisciplinary

Currently doing an env change assignment on the decline of megafauna and ecological consequences.

But I get to be nosy at other disciplines, I got to read into this whale shark reproduction behavior paper :P

Frontiers | Love bites? Pre-copulatory behaviours of whale sharks (Rhincodon typus) at Ningaloo Reef, Western Australia
Whale sharks (Rhincodon typus) aggregate in coastal waters at tropical and warm temperate locations around the world (Araujo et al., 2022). Although these ne...

Sphagnum found during some volunteering i did with the yorkshire wildlife trust where we removed an ornamental invasive species plant (Rhododendron ponticum)

Sphagnum and disciplines around bogs and wetlands was my entry into this field and always gets me excited seeing it. (Espec in yorkshire!)

New flex! I got to volunteer with The Wildlife Trust.

W/ a combination of on-site surveying, historical maps and some literature. We re-examined the distributions of ancient forests within and around sheffield. For classification. I learnt a lot about history which I didn't expect.

As an undergrad student, I find it a little daunting trying to connect and talk to people who are so much more advanced in their fields.

I want to especially do it due to wanting to further into research and learning more, but I'm not sure what's the "polite" way to.

Any advice?

One of our weird discoveries: 1st field-documented case of a zebra mussel attached to a fish (lake chub). This phoretic association could facilitate 1) within-basin spread of zebra mussels via fish migration & 2) overland transport by anglers moving baitfish. redpath-staff.mcgill.ca/ricciardi/Ri...

One more thing, I think I'll show off today, but with my university, we went to skipsea to look at sediment stratigraphy from glacial deposits. But there was also a lake bed from the holocene and there were woodchips with bever bite marks as well as previously there had been bever hair.

I thought I might as well show off some cool things I got to do lately:

I went sphagnum moss plug planting to help with peatbog restoration and saw some beautiful landscapes. Sphagnum moss is also just really cool!
