Sometimes the world is a horrible place.

All the more reason to count your blessings. Today I feel lucky to be able to have a morning run in a forest during English bluebell season.

Rage depletes your batteries. Remember to recharge. It's going to be a long fight.

It's hard to find the words. NSF just terminated the grant for Journeys, a mentoring workshop that tried to tackle underrepresentation of women in international relations. Future scholarship will be the worse for it. But this photo from our last gathering will motivate me to keep fighting.

But, sir, every plant and tree will die. Owls will deafen us with incessant hooting.
The town's sundial will be useless....

Dear UK government, are we really cribbing ideas from both Futurama and the Simpsons?

Kaschuta described internalizing tradwife ideas about women’s primacy in the home. When she tried to take on all the domestic labor in her own family, it nearly broke her. She started to realize that while the new right’s racism and misogyny were often delivered with an ironic smirk, it was no joke.

People who once found right-wing ideas scintillating are having second thoughts as they watch Trump put those ideas into practice.

The lesson to voters is be wary of anyone selling a quick fix to complex problems. They are invariably charlatans, and they seldom care about the hardships of the people whose votes they are courting.
How Brexit, a Startling Act of Economic Self-Harm, Foreshadowed Trump’s Tariffs
Britain’s decision to leave the European Union in 2016 was sold to voters as a magic bullet that would revitalize the country’s economy. Its impact is still reverberating.

"China condemns US protectionism". Now there's a headline no one in 2005 would have ever expected.

Next up, "US declares war on the global order it created." Oh wait...we did that one already.

Trump is making relative gains great again.

Nice to see fare jumpers finally being fined on Greater Anglia trains. I was starting to feel like a chump for actually buying tickets.

Anyone else shocked that a man whose signature financial strategy is bankrupting his businesses and failing to pay his debts has ruined the previously prosperous global economy of his predecessors?

I will be teaching our post-grad IR seminar in the autumn. Given current world events, I think I will load up on classics like EH Carr and Morgenthau.

Does anyone have a new favorite from the classics list or an old favourite they're dusting off after years of neglect?

I was just discussing the US admin being aligned with Russia in class Thursday and how that could alter Arctic (and other) relations
NEW: The actions of Trump and Vance in recent weeks highlight something under-appreciated.

The American right is now ideologically closer to countries like Russia, Turkey and in some senses China, than to the rest of the west (even the conservative west).

If we just remember to take the Trump tariffs seriously, not literally, we will all be fine.

We have the best tarrifs.
