If I'm the dems, I think I come out of this knowing that there's support amongst at least the GOP senate for normalizing the approps process and reigning in Vought. That's basically what we got out of this.

Generally I think Christmas being a mess will make DJT more unpopular though yeah
Is there an angle on drawing things out bc Dems want time for Trump to be even more unpopular in hopes that GOP will disregard him? At what point does he become toothless - when he’s dead? It’s frustrating that the Dems are always seen as needing to save voters from the GOP - whom they elected

I tend to think that this here is an underrated "could get interesting" in the house. Launching torpedos into big industries that have pull in specific districts can get dangerous for bills passing.
also: are any of them mad about destroying billions in hemp industry dollars in their state?

Reduction in Force. All people RIF'ed from October 1st to now need to be rehired, and no RIFs are allowed until the end of the CR.

The mechanism of enforcement is the Anti-deficiency act, which is real and has serious teeth, and the explicit nature of how it's spelled out is not nothing.
What is RIF language?

I agree with this take that the GOP is not going to be able to figure out a good solution and what we get is going to suck.

BUT, it is interesting that Johnson is saying that its now top priority. There does seem to be acceptance that something needs to be done here even amongst the GOP.
So, we're fucked.

Like so many things about this administration, it's amazing to watch them find the topic that they think they need to talk about, and immediately turn it into ALL STICK NO CARROT

My wife's grandfather is quite old, and has really advanced dementia, and this is basically what he wants 24/7 - he has to be told how smart and how good a job he did and how much everyone relies on him and blah blah blah pretty much non-stop or he just hits the roof.
People marvel at this, but this is what it’s all about for Trump. He needs this constant lavish praise as deeply and profoundly as you and I need air.

But also: Imagine what a basket case you would have to be psychologically to need this all the time.

I think you should keep this message up Mr. President, it is clearly working.
INGRAHAM: Is affordability a voter perception issue of the economy, or is there more that needs to be done by Republicans?

TRUMP: More than anything else, it's a con job by the Democrats. Are you ready? Costs are way down.

No, like, it becomes a minor pandemic that gets halted just like SARS did.

The US was a *major* player in international pandemic prevention, Obama's pandemic response office was working on exactly this before Trump disbanded it.

The lack of global pandemic leadership was part of why it got so bad.
Yup. HRC being elected, beating Mitch McConnell to (figurative) death with her shoe and putting Garland in instead of Gorsuch? Replacing RBG with Ketanji Brown in 2018? I suspect HRC still pays for COVID and doesn't get re-elected BUT it would have been better.

I'm telling you, Senate dems know what they're doing. R's were NEVER going to extend enhanced credits & dems knew that going in. This was always going to be how it ended. I predicted last week that it was going to happen this weekend. R's own every bit of ACA premium pain 😏

It was masterful. The screaming Mimi's don't understand political strategy. The shutdown was just long enough for the new premiums to drop last week so people could see what a bloodbath it was going to be. R's will never be able to outrun this. And Dems ensured SNAP & Fed workers will be safe. 💅

NEW: Dems easily flipped the sheriff's office in Pennsylvania's Bucks County, a big swing county in the Philly suburbs.

So? The incumbent GOP sheriff had contracted with ICE. His Dem challenger promised to end the contract.

Now he wants other swing-state Dems to look at his victory as a lesson:
