I've been replaying CrossCode (2018) and I think it's become one of my favorite games of all time. It's an SNES-style action-RPG inspired by Zelda and Secret of Mana set within a fictional MMORPG. Strong combat, good jokes, devious puzzles. If you haven't played it, you should

Just rolled credits on Donkey Kong Bananza. Utterly insane how back-loaded this game is. It simply never stops getting better from about the halfway point on.

Another generational W for Nintendo. Man, if this thing was day one on Switch 2 launch, it would have been a totally different conversation

#Gaurodan is out!

The 2013 game has been completely redone to fit my current vision of traditional arcade game design. It's denser (more levels but less overall length), with better pacing, mechanics and a proper scoring system.

I won’t pretend to have hated the trinity of 90s easy listening frat rock bands— Hootie and the Blowfish, Dave Matthews Band, Toad the Wet Sprocket. I won’t even pretend to hate them now; I’ll leave the radio on for any of them.

But wow, they’ve had no long-term legacy for how popular they were.

Blue Prince is out. Play Blue Prince. Don't use a guide or I'll kill you.

40 hours in now. Hit an incredible chain reaction of revelations last night. Very much in danger of ruining my life to live in the pretend puzzle house forever.
I’m about 20 hours into BLUE PRINCE, and feel like I have accomplished so, so much. But my mind is still constantly flabbergasted by the hints of just how little I know and what is still to come in the next 10? 20? 30 hours?

It’s the Lorelei and the Laser Eyes of 2025. It feels like an all-timer.

You can also go further up the chain and say that both Zarf and BP's devs are fans of Christopher Manson's "Maze" -- which Blue Prince makes some very explicit references too!

Did I stop into this little takoyaki bar because it was called Goonies? Absolutely. I don't even like takoyaki. But it was a nice way to relax in the middle of walking around all day, and I got to watch Home Alone 2 in Japanese. Do you think the owner likes American stuff?

First up: Extreme Evolution: Drive to Divinity. Like Super Monkey Ball if it was a non-linear shapeshifting metroidvania. Eye-searing, but a surprisingly coherent sensory assault.

My opinions are ever shifting, but I think my GOTY top ten shortlist right now is (in no particular order)

Selaco
Nine Sols
Lorn's Lure
Angel At Dusk
Arco
UFO 50
Caves of Qud
Path of Exile 2
Robotnik's Ring Racers
Abiotic Factor

Those are the ones that resonated with me, personally.

Going in, I expected this game to be “just okay,” maybe better than the 3DS ones, but lacking the magic of the original trilogy because it was a new developer. I was wrong, this is the next great Mario RPG. The finale might even be the best in Mario & Luigi.
