A homeowner was out feeding the horses when she saw this Western Diamondback Rattlesnake in front of the barn. By the time Jeff arrived, the snake had moved to take shelter under a cart. The property was wide open to the natural desert, so there will always be the occasional visitor.

Bonus: toad.

This Blacktailed Rattlesnake was found in a shady spot at a home in Yavapai Hills, Arizona. The homeowner had just started to walk up the spiral stairs when she spotted the visitor. Dane helped the snake get up the hill to a suitable release site.

Arizona Black Rattlesnakes are amazingly variable in appearance across their range. Most that are seen and photographed are in the relatively well-populated areas of the Mogollon Rim between Flagstaff, Prescott, and Payson. In other parts of their range, however, they look a bit less familiar.

Tracking Rattlesnakes in the Sand

While visiting family out of town, Jeff took a morning to look for sidewinder rattlesnakes. The weather wasn’t ideal, but he headed out anyway to see what he could find and learn along the way.

Rattlesnake Released

A quick release of a Western Diamondback Rattlesnake that Austin was called to capture at a home in Phoenix. This kind of deep cover is necessary to help the animal survive the ordeal, and eventually plug back into its existing home range.

Rattlesnake Release

Austin got this little Western Diamondback Rattlesnake out from under a shed and released it correctly, directly to deep cover where it can safely begin to reorient with its existing home range.

Coachwhip Barely Survives

This snake is lucky to be alive after being stuck in wire mesh for who knows how long. Marissa gave it some water, which it drank for a long time.

On the day this was filmed, I posted our daily rattlesnake activity forecast — something we’ve developed from years of data and thousands of rattlesnake relocations across Arizona.

No gimmicks. Just real-world results and what we actually see out there.

Rattlesnake By The Front Door

Quick and easy rattlesnake capture. This is typical – when they are handled gently, they are very often not at all defensive.

The blue-grey eyes of a Southwestern Speckled Rattlesnake stand out against its red and grey body. This is a typical look for the species as they are found in rocky areas of central Phoenix. This snake carries a small passive radio transmitter that helps us learn about its life in an urban park.

Kingsnakes are harmless snakes common throughout much of Arizona. They can often become ambassador animals, easing homeowners into the idea of sharing space with animals our culture has forced unreasonable feelings towards.

An Arizona Black Rattlesnake visited a home in the Yavapai Hills in early September. This is how it was found by Dane when he arrived to pick it up. The snake had not moved from this position in over a half hour before that, for whatever reason.

A Mojave Rattlesnake that had made its way up a wash and through a small drain at the bottom of a cinder block wall before being spotted by the homeowner. This was at a new build, and exactly the kind of situation that rattlesnake fencing can prevent.

A Mojave Rattlesnake relocation call in the Williamson Valley for Dane. The homeowner found the first one hanging out to the AC unit digesting a meal.

The amount of hours spent on trying to help *some* people make this doozy of a decision is a full-time job. We all know one ;) or two. There is no room for stunts in work with these animals, professional or otherwise.

This snake was spotted by the homeowner and stopped moving. It doesn't know what a concrete patio is, so it held perfectly still while it was watched, apparently believing its camouflage to be doing the trick.

Wow! A really pretty Southwestern Speckled Rattlesnake found by the front door by a homeowner in south Phoenix. Maggie was careful to relocate it to the right habitat for the species and season.

This baby Western Diamondback Rattlesnakewas found coiled up against the side of a new home, just after construction was completed. The adjacent lots were also being developed, so there was a lot of disturbance throughout the area.
