Prohibited activities include advising Chinese graduate students. For reference, a recent Georgetown report estimated 16% of STEM graduate students in the US are Chinese nationals.

This would take out entire fields at the knees, which is perhaps the point.
“The prohibited activities would include joint research, co-authorship on papers, and advising a foreign graduate student or postdoctoral fellow. The language is retroactive, meaning any interactions during the previous 5 years could make a scientist ineligible for future federal funding.”
U.S. Congress considers sweeping ban on Chinese collaborations
Researchers speak out against proposal that would bar funding for U.S. scientists working with Chinese partners or training Chinese students

While workers in 40+ cities began their ULP strike today, union baristas are also holding Red Cup Rallies in 17 cities!

Here's a glimpse from Pittsburgh, where Starbucks customers are demanding the company stop union-busting and finalize fair contracts! #NoContractNoCoffee

Beyond the ethical and quality concerns, why would you want to cut voice actors out of your process? They’re the hot people with media training and a camera presence. You need a Laura Bailey or Neil Newbon out there to do panels or it’s just a bunch of sweaty devs in t shirts and blazers

One of the constant refrains I repeated when I was a lead was yes, my team can pivot, yes, we are happy to rework an idea. But it’s going to take time. Changing any element in a story has knock-on effects.
It has occurred to me that a lot of things genAI is supposed to magically fix is really all down to bad planning and budgeting

And seeing how often bad project management comes down to directors thinking they should just be able to pivot by snapping their fingers, I don't think I'm entirely wrong >

I REALLY need a strategy for Corsair's floor-related spooking.

In SOME situations, it's possible for me to give him space/time to explore the floor with his nose and feet at his pace, and that pretty much always works. But I don't always HAVE that liberty and then I have a Problem.

Even if Trans Rights was a "Losing Issue" (it's not), I think Human Rights are actually something worth standing up for and if you start deciding whose dignity isn't popular enough to defend, you're playing the Fascist Game and are a piece of shit.

Sometimes protagonists aren't able to fix the world. Sometimes they're not even able to see the problems with it. Sometimes they're just trying to survive. Sometimes they're even part of the problem.

I'd expand this to all authors. In a broader field that is often so isolated and without direct conversation between writer and reader, it is an extraordinary gift to reach out and tell someone how their work impacted you.
On behalf of all self-published authors, I authorize you to reach out & tell us if you really enjoyed something we wrote.

We’re all dog-paddling in a sea of self-doubt & impostor syndrome & those little messages mean a lot.

Unless stated otherwise, our DMs/inboxes are always open for kind words 💞
