Just finished recording a great convo with Mila Burns about her book w/@uncpress.bsky.social for @newbooksnetwork.bsky.social!

This book teaches us to think about Brazil as a regional powerhouse & shows its role in facilitating the coup against Allende. A tough & crucial read.

Migrant remittances--the money migrants send to families back home--are REALLY important. They don't get as many headlines as they should. Glad to see this report.

My new project looks at the long history of migrant remitting practices between Mexico and the US. Stay tuned!
As the US ramps up deportations and prepares to impose a new tax on many outgoing remittances, diaspora members may be reconsidering how much money to send back to their homelands

Our article explores the factors affecting remittances

The lost history of Latin America’s role in averting catastrophe during the Cuban missile crisis
A common US-centric narrative holds that the Cuban missile crisis ended when Washington stood firm against the Soviets. But that story ignores a whole continent.

It’s really hard to post this. I know that there are a lot of other important issues asking for money but things have gotten to the point where we need to open ourselves up to your support.

Thank you for your consideration.
