Just saw Aussie rock band The Angels - fabulous!!! All the hits played. I am a very stinky very sweaty exhausted but deliriously happy rock chick - there’s nothing like good old fashioned rock n roll! 🎶🕺🎸

I’m writing about a middle age muse-mistress exploring the dark side of Bohemia - and herself. I took art lessons to paint this photo encapsulating the story.

“…she’s prepared to look ignorant, grumpy, petty and small if that’s in pursuit of emotional truth. She makes us all work harder and stay braver.” A great survey here by Rochelle of the work of the very special person that is Helen Garner
Australian author Helen Garner is now so famous and well-regarded that to say you don’t like her has almost become a badge of honour among rebels, which I think is sad. Wrote this piece for @artshub.bsky.social.
Why do we love Helen Garner so much?
From Monkey Grip to How to End a Story, Helen Garner has been writing with clear-eyed precision for the better part of 50 years.

Settling down to continue my edit: choral sacred music playlist and sandalwood oil perfume for calm. Outside, a random purple flowered bush waves tendrils in the breeze, light green butterflies flutter by, above is a deep blue Queensland sky.

Please buy and read this book.

I'm glad I read it if only to bear witness 🙏

Where are Epstein’s secret videos? When will the powerful clients/abusers be arrested?

❤️🙏 RIP Virginia Giuffre - It took too long for people to listen 😞

I cut 3776 words today! and began aligning my novel with 'Save the cat' 15 beats for novels, to ensure the pacing works. Am up to beat 8 - it's aligning well so far. Tomorrow I’ll identify the bloated sections 🎉

My favourite author - so well deserved!!
Helen Garner has won The Baillie Gifford Prize for non-fiction for 'How to End a Story', her collection of diaries. Helen is an ASA life member and ASA Medal recipient, and we offer our warmest congratulations to her for being awarded this major international prize!
Helen Garner’s diaries win 2025 Baillie Gifford prize for nonfiction
Tracing the author’s life from bohemian Melbourne in the 70s to the breakdown of her marriage in the 90s, How to End a Story was praised by judges for ‘taking the diary form to new heights’

So, writers, there’s hope for your rejected manuscript! Never give up! 🤩 📚
Oh that’s funny: Kafka’s The Metamorphosis/Transformation was reviewed at the time of publication as “really lacking imagination & being boring” in one journal

I used to collect hearts, coral hearts, from the seashore. Then one day walking home I looked up and saw the gum outside my front gate… it’s a heart tree! 💚

I'm learning how to kill my darlings as I edit Novel 2 - it has an embarrassment of hooks and X-factors - the only trouble is, it's WAY TOO LONG. I cannot wait to see this novel's shiny svelte self when I'm done!

Visiting family I came up with a fabulous idea for what will be my third novel - and researched comps to see if it’s been done - I came up with Lionel Shriver’s A Perfectly Good Family - not in stock 😞 but I DID find these -
I’d like to write as ferociously 📚
