"When you're driving a car, you're holding a loaded gun."
This is a phrase I use regularly when discussing the woes of car-centric society; it may be dramatic, but it's not hyperbolic.
It only takes a brief lapse of judgment pointed in the wrong direction, and suddenly someone(s) is maimed or dead.

Fun fact - the US has more miles of rail than any other on the planet (yes, including China)
Almost all that rail is owned/operated by the largest freight rail companies in the world.
Imagine what we could do with what we already have if we actually invested in passenger service

It's almost funny, as someone who is underemployed, with experience/willingness to be a server, delivery bike rider, etc., to feel like I have **fewer options** to make money because of Seattle's very high minimum wage for tipped workers/delivery drivers.
Unintended consequences are a bitch.

Not a fan of the way the scummy capitalist in me comes alive when I walk into a Nordstrom

I fervently believe that the whole "Seattle freeze" is just a skill issue. Folks just need hobbies

My lukewarm take of the moment is that Ballard is a supremely overrated neighborhood of Seattle

A Seattle house decorated with skeletons, ghosts, and spiderwebs, but the scariest piece by far is their "Re-Elect Sara Nelson" yard sign

This is in one of the wealthiest municipalities in America, yet the problem is basically ubiquitous nationally.
The economics of suburban sprawl has never been sustainable, and it will never be sustainable.

Facing insolvency, Bellevue School District seeks limited state oversight of finances
The district anticipates spending $14.4 million more than it will receive in revenue this fiscal year. By law, a district must maintain a balanced budget.

Living for the girl at Pride crying while fanning herself with a fan that reads "Slut" in Shrek font.
If that ain't the mood here in 2025 idk what is

Didn't read it, but this article headlines "Most Bike-Friendly Big Cities in the US" and chose to use a photo with one bicycle in it and at least 23 cars, and I think that's just a remarkable indication of the general biking experience in the US.

Denver Named One of Most Bike-Friendly Big Cities in the U.S.
It seems like the city's hundreds of miles of new bike lanes are paying off.

This is a modal filter that forces cars to turn but allows bikes and pedestrians to continue through the block.
This is one striking example of how Seattle (and other cities) can grow its urban canopy while ambitiously developing dense housing.

Eee!! Looks like new street safety improvements on the way in the neighborhood 🤗

Been watching this poor old man struggle to parallel park for over 5 min now, congesting traffic and making people mad. I almost find it funny, but ultimately it's sad that so many elderly citizens feel compelled to drive in order to participate in society.
Beyond sad, eventually it's hazardous.

"The drivers are so crazy in [insert region here] 🤪"
No baby girl, people everywhere are just bad drivers, and car-centric infrastructure just rewards the worst of them.

If some district is only great "once you have a car," then that district is actually not great at all.

Of course Bellevue Square and the other downtown Bellevue malls get the bulk of marketing attention, but imo Crossroads is the most interesting, organic, and eclectic place to eat/shop/vibe (of the places I've been to on the east side)

I've been inclined to call a noise complaint about a house party being obnoxiously loud with their speakers, but they've played an adequate amount of Lady Gaga that I'm holding off.
