@infrasound.bsky.social gave a great talk on PDC generated infrasound! I might be biased, but I think it was wonderful work ❤️ #IAVCEI2025 @iavcei.bsky.social

forms.gle/TWLt2qq1XLZz... #IAVCEI2025 Fellow volcanologists, if you use drones (or even intend to), please take a minute and fill out this survey.
Then and now: a post-workshop survey
It's been a little over two years since the inaugural "Lessons-Learned Community-Driven Workshop to Define Best Practices for Unoccupied Aerial Systems (UAS) use in Volcanology" at IAVCEI 2023. Techno...

Loved (biased) @pyrolithic.bsky.social talk on lahar fingerprinting and the convergent development of a tool and the use of cross correlation matrix visualization we use in seismology! #IAVCEI2025

We're looking for volcano researchers who use drones to fill out a short(ish) survey on typical field practices and use of UAS. We'll present some preliminary results at IAVCEI in Geneva @iavcei.bsky.social next month.

Survey here: forms.gle/TWLt2qq1XLZz...

Thank you!!!

Te Wai ā-moe, the sleeping waters, is the crater lake at the summit of Mt. Ruapehu, surrounded by (much diminished) glaciers on two sides, and a ridge of rock and tephra on the other 1.9.

There is nothing like seeing your study area in person. @pyrolithic.bsky.social had so many thoughts just eating lunch and staring at the lake he has been modelling recently.

The Vivienne Westwood exhibition at Te Papa is amazing from the design right down to the materials. Those are some gorgeous aragonite clusters.

Always love sharing this story.

Soon, the "efficiency bros" will target science/research they think isn't adding value. Truth is, we don't know the value until it’s revealed - often years later.

Another great example: radio astronomy research on tiny black holes led to Wi-Fi for billions of ppl!
And a friendly reminder of why Govt’s should invest in science research, even for the purpose of science, curiosity and discovery?

PCR tests helped billions of people this pandemic and are here because scientists studied extremophiles in the Yellowstone hot springs.

Why's an astrophysicist riffing on Pre-Cambrian geology and geophysics without talking to a single geoscienist?

I can no longer make fun of @infrasound.bsky.social for mixing up onsen and Unzen. Up until last week I thought Ottolenghi was just a variant name for Oldoinyo Lengai that people used when talking about regional dishes

Coming back into New Zealand I flew over the source of all my field studies, Mt Ruapehu's Crater Lake, Te Wai ā-moe

I'm finally reading Children of Time and enjoying it. I want to compare it to the Uplift books, but there's a much narrower focus and sense of urgency here.
