feel like not nearly enough people are talking about this — apparently the democratic “yes” votes have effectively agreed to having the u.s. government write 6 republican senators $500k checks?
Look at this new outrage. To open govt, we're retroactively letting 8 Senators sue for $500K each over having had their J6 phone toll records looked at. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/10/u...

Most people would think this was bullshit or insane, but then you remember male rape victims have been successfully sued for child support

Here's my addendum tip: Diversify OUTSIDE the US as well. Like VXUS. Not advising you sell your US portfolio or anything, just these days, diversify doesn't really mean what it used to mean
Two truths can be true at once: AI may be utterly transformative; Wall Street may be in over its skis. For your 401(k), the lesson from the dot‑com era: diversify broadly so you catch the wave without betting the house on Pets dot com 2.0.

So annoying... It rains like twice all summer... Then literally the exact moment it gets cold enough to snow, it snows every day

Though Trump’s pardons can’t extend to state crimes, I think it’s worth pointing out the message being conveyed:

Trump’s allies are alleged to have stolen data from state voting systems in an effort to help him overturn an election he lost.

Now he’s pardoning them for it.

News coverage of this has focused on the pardon of those involved in the fake electors plot.

But the pardon also extends to key figures who participated in the unauthorized breach of voting systems in Coffee County, Georgia

My reporting on the breach: www.lawfaremedia.org/article/what...

Apparently those creepy zuck glasses are actually fairly popular and people wear them in public?
Maybe it's to keep people away... I know I'm not engaging with someone who has a camera pointed at me

This is most directly about the fake electors (none of whom face any federal charges anyway) but the actual wording of it is much broader: it's effectively a full and complete blanket pardon for anybody who had anything to do with trying to steal the 2020 election, not just the Jan 6-ers.
The language of this pardon is extremely broad.

It includes “all United States citizens for conduct relating to the advice, creation, organization, execution, submission, support, voting, activities, participation in, or advocacy for or of any slate or proposed slate of Presidential
electors…”

LOL are dems GOP plants?
Major concession from Democrats here is enhanced ACA funds aren’t extended. Preserving them was Dems’ central demand in this fight. They secured a promise of a vote (which Thune has been offering for weeks), but that could still fail. Even if it passes, Johnson has made no promise of a House vote.
Tentative Senate deal to end shutdown, multiple sources tell me & @frankthorp.bsky.social:

—CR through Jan 30
—Approps minibus
—Fully funds SNAP
—Reverses Trump’s shutdown RIFs
—Promise of Senate vote on ACA subsidies by Dec second week (details/outcome uncertain)
—Led by King/Shaheen/Hassan

This summer, Canada’s tourism sector did more business than ever before — by welcoming the world and being our own best customer.

More good news: we just renewed the Canada Strong Pass for the holidays and summer 2026 — so it’s more affordable to explore our incredible country.

If/when the supreme court reverses Trump's tariffs, he'll spend the rest of his term saying everything bad economically is caused by that... And I really think the economy is worse than they're saying and is in for a recession. So it'll play to Trump's bullshit

In the 2000s, just ten percent of Americans believed the government was doing a poor job on economic policy. Today, that's 64%, higher than at any point in our history, beating the oil shocks, wage and price controls, the great inflation, any major recession, financial crisis or pandemic.
