1. it is infinitely easier for speakers to have a neutral frequency response than it is for headphones
2. it is infinitely easier for headphones to reproduce sound without audible distortion than it is for speakers

I'm trying some stuff with test tones and what the hell there's literally a 0.25-0.3 semitone difference between the same frequency at 55dB SPL and 85dB SPL, with the note going flatter the louder it is, I guess this explains why our perfect pitch isn't infallible & people fuck up at concerts

ears suck, I was wondering if our monitoring was too dark bc notoriously bright stuff sounded fine, no the outer wide part of our ear canals was just caked in wax, no blockage whatsoever but that attenuates reflections of sound that contribute to treble sensitivity

just encountered a bizarre situation in winamp where a file having replaygain written to it is causing it, mysteriously, to play back at an incorrect level and clip far before the 0dBFS ceiling when replaygain is DISABLED in the player, and at the same level without clipping if enabled
