“People would be horrified” if video of the boat double tap were released.

Hegseth, today:

Treasury Secretary acknowledges Russian incursions into NATO borders and the thought that our treaty allies might invoke Article 5 apparently never crosses his precious mind.

Most politically engaged people I know work demanding jobs (without the staff, briefings, or perks of the Speaker’s office) yet still manage to keep up with major national events.
RAJU: If defenseless survivors were killed, would that constitute a violation of the laws of war?

MIKE JOHNSON: I'm not going to prejudge any of that. I was pretty busy yesterday. I didn't follow a lot of the news.

Now juxtapose Hegseth's vile little cartoon with this line from the Post report on the latest horror:

"If the video of the blast that killed the two survivors on Sept. 2 were made public, people would be horrified, said one person who watched the live feed."
Imagine being a career officer in the chain of command on Trump's boat bombings. You have deep moral and legal concerns about them. Your faith in leadership is shaky. Then you see Pete Hegseth tweet out a sadistic cartoon about it. Must be awful.

Thoughts on this:

For this situation specifically, Bradley was the only one in the entire chain who could have refused at essentially zero risk to himself. So no, he shouldn’t get credit for saying “but Pete told me to” when it all comes out.

Does make me wonder if Slotkin, Kelly, and the rest of Congress were hearing stuff prompting the video they made about not following illegal orders
Exclusive: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave an order to “kill everybody” in the first strike on suspected drug boats in the Caribbean. After two men survived, the mission commander ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions, according to two sources.

This is so deeply at odds with the vision and history of America. Take pretty much any ethnic or racial group that are part of the American mosaic America today - they have all faced the same accusation. The moment these accusations are turned into policy are some of the most shameful in US history

This statement is way outside of CIA’s lane and erosive of the ethical norm that intelligence should be non-partisan. If that norm vanishes, intelligence loses a very large portion of its value.

All this = no “rally round the flag effect,” and most importantly: untold human suffering. Truly sleepwalking into disaster with this one.
Really looks like the United States is about to launch a regime change war against Venezuela with:

-No casus belli
-No authorization from Congress
-No allies or international support
-No plan for a post-Maduro Venezuela
-No preparation for any sort of stabilization or containment of the fallout

Trump has never seen Ukraine as anything but a pot to raid for political capital, its people expendable if they serve his petty goals (dirt on rivals, chasing vanity “peace” prizes, feedin headlines). Evil on that scale, in service of one man’s ego, is a moral crime against humanity in my book.
Ungrateful Ukrainians, didn’t even thank for such a brilliant plan of their own capitulation and rewarding the Russian aggressor.

The irony of these people complaining about the invented dangers of immigrants and then welcoming brain pollution from overseas hustlers.
Twitter pays people based on engagement (views, retweets, comments, etc). It appears that many MAGA accounts are based abroad and they use AI technology to generate low-effort rage bait.

My guess is that this will get worse as AI tech improves. For instance, fake videos of minorities doing crime.
