Today someone asked me how UPROPERTY in #UnrealEngine worked. I was like "How hard could it be to go find the macro" -- but the macro is just ... in C++, it's ignored. Then I ended up in the C# UBT plugins and code generation. What a ride! That's a wild toolchain but was also a very interesting trip

Hello #FollowFriday! I am the developer (pro SWE) portion of a 2-person team called Autumn Court Games! We are currently working on a first-person horror game, and then on to an RPG. Everything we do is #MadeWithUnreal #UnrealEngine #UE5 -- I also plan to make courses, publish assets, and do YT.

Just starting on implementing AI in #UnrealEngine. In the finished game, escape will not be possible via just hopping off the level, but here extreme measures were necessary. #indie #gamedev #MadeWithUnreal On a later title, I plan to write a GOAP system, but [sadly] not necessary for this title.

When #Unity3d laid off their Behavior team, I almost just took 2-3 days to write my own BT implementation and carry on instead of hopping back over to #UnrealEngine. I'm very glad I didn't! Unreal has so much on top of its BTs like EQS, the Gameplay Debugger, it's absolutely amazing. #gamedev

Spoiler alert, I went a little radio silent because I've switched back to #UE5 #UnrealEngine. TIL how to use the C++ testing framework and the Testing Automation with BP to test gameplay behaviors. Absolutely incredible for making sure my #gamedev works as expected. Way too much to playtest alone.

So I've been starting from scratch in #Unity3d (from UE5). I'm making a player controller, a state machine that auto-loads states you make, and an ability system that handles actions, abilities, and traits/stats/perks. All of it follows good SOLID principles. Would this make a good edu vid? #gamedev

I suppose as good a first post on BlueSky as any: I wanted to do my stats as ScriptableObjects in Autumn Court's first game... I have a tendency of keeping everything in code where my girlfriend can't get at it. Slowly building tools that allow her as a fellow designer to participate.
