DFA members accepted the agreement/back-to-work protocol. @dalhousieu.bsky.social also ratified. Faculty will be back in the classrooms/labs with students Tuesday. Thanks to our members for their resolve, to students for their support and to unions across Canada for having our backs. #KeepDalStrong

The @dalfaculty.bsky.social returned to the bargaining table with the Dalhousie Board of Governors at 4pm ADT on Friday, September 12.

Meanwhile, the DFA held its fourth rally on the same day. The union has been locked out since August 20th.

It’s shameful that the @dalhousieu.bsky.social board are treating their faculty so poorly and have negatively impacted so many of their students.

The @dalhousieu.bsky.social Board of Governors have taken the unprecedented move to lock out @dalfaculty.bsky.social. We’ve written to the BOG urging them to return to good faith bargaining with DFA. We stand in solidarity with all DFA members. @psac-afpc.bsky.social

Infographic with text reading: Background: On August 11th, 2025, Dalhousie University Board of Governors and the Dalhousie Faculty Association (DFA) met for their final conciliation meeting. The DFA represents approximately 1000 professors, instructors, librarians and professional counsellors at Dalhousie University. The Board walked away from this meeting at noon without any notice to the DFA team or the conciliator. The Board’s final offer was presented to DFA members on August 14th and 18th, 2025, with voting on it set to close on August 21st, 2025, at 4pm. Despite voting on the Board’s final offer not yet being complete, Dalhousie University announced on August 18th, 2025, that it would take the unprecedented step of locking its faculty out, beginning August 20th, 2025. This lockout is the first ever by a Canadian U15 University. At 9:30am on August 20th, 2025, the DFA launched a defensive strike.
