I hate it when people don't test their software properly. This is a screenshot from EE's app; my next 'bill' will be 'higher than usual' because I've got a negative balance. Argh. Come on people, this is basic stuff.

Wait, some people just 'guess' when reading if they don't know a word? They essentially make up their own narrative? And this is taught in some American schools?! Wow. This explains so much - not just low literacy, but poor reasoning, logic, deduction, debate and thought. What an article and thread.
ever since I learned about three-cueing I've developed infinitely more patience for replies on social media. mfers literally do not know how to read. people are walking around conjuring random meanings into words they don't know, and they don't know a lot of words. it's crazy

Honestly, this 🧵. I may be shouty and critical about a lot, but in my life, every day, I'm reminded and reassured by the kindness and warmth of most British people. Even in my benighted county.

I shout because I will fight those who want to make this not the place that welcomed me 20 yrs ago. 💖
Personal note: London has been home for a very, very long time, but as of today, I am also officially a Brit - that is to say, a British citizen. I feel relieved and I feel grateful - but not, perhaps, in the forelock-tugging way GB News/Starmer expect a new immigrant to be.

This is just insane. VPN use is legal and not just used by ppl circumventing the crap and pointless online safety act.

This is nothing more than an attempted authoritarian power grab that North Korea would be proud of.
The British government admits it is now monitoring VPNs use by UK residents. Regulator Ofcom has contracted with an AI-powered surveillance service to detect the number of citizens using VPNs to evade the Online Safety Act.

The UK tech minister has said a VPN ban is on the table.
Exclusive: Ofcom is monitoring VPNs following Online Safety Act. Here's how
Ignoring VPNs risks creating ineffective laws, but tracking them threatens people's privacy

This is one of the first pre-viral videos I remember seeing/being shared in the 90s at university. It's astonishing and funny and crazy and quirky.
It’s 12 November, so it’s time to mark the 55th anniversary of the exploding whale of Oregon, an attempt to clear a cetacean carcass from a beach which prompted one reporter to say “The blast blasted blubber beyond all believable bounds”

My mum's fess… At a wake after a funeral at a crematorium, everyone was reminiscing with so many favourite, fun and fond tales of the recently deceased. My mum decided to chip in and said, 'Wow, so many stories about him! I bet his ears are burning!'

Worth looking at the threads to see how bad this all is. Even the trucks' wheel arrangements aren't the same!
The studio that made the shitty coca-cola AI ad getting their teeth kicked in on socials bc of how icky bad it is, then the studio CEO coming out insulting and dismissing folks kicking their teeth in, and THEN releasing the worst ever cover up “hey we actually made this by hand” scam vid

Watson was an awful man, it turns out. It's a sad reminder that those who have moments of genius - even of world changing significance - can still be terrible people. To a lesser extent, I also put Patrick Moore in that category...
pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

The industry will down skill to repair and maintenance alone.

Kills off any investment or innovation in OLE too.

If gave you €1 every second since you were born:

You would have €1 million within a week and a half.

You would have €1 billion by 32.

You would never have €1 trillion. Generations upon generations after you would not reach €1 trillion. Because it would take over 31,700 years to reach €1 trillion.
