I don't resent poor people who use food stamps to buy another soft drink.

I resent rich people who take away the funds for food stamps to buy another yacht.

Radio call today of a suicidal man on Ardmore Avenue. The officers approached and began to engage the guy. He was weeping, drunk, and rambling incoherently at times. One thing we all understood was his profound distress because his “snap benefits are ending and Trump gets a fucking ballroom.”

The reality: Americans have been dragged, tackled, beaten, tased and shot by immigration agents.

A must read from the very talented @nicolefoy.bsky.social:
More Than 170 U.S. Citizens Have Been Held by Immigration Agents. They’ve Been Kicked, Dragged and Detained for Days.
The government does not track how often immigration agents grab citizens. So ProPublica did. Our tally — almost certainly incomplete — includes people who were held for days without a lawyer. And near...

Nothing new here. The conservative ideology has always been the home of racists. Dems had them in the civil war era and they started migrating to the GOP when Truman pushed his civil rights bill in ‘47 through ‘64 when Goldwater ran on overturning the Civil Rights Act and to Nixon in ‘68.

I teach a history of antifascism course @ruhistorydept.bsky.social and figured I'd start an ongoing thread this semester to share some insights from course readings and recommend some great works on antifascism.
