I’m proud to share Securing Georgia’s Future, a report that makes the case for #babybonds as a powerful tool to close Georgia’s growing racial wealth divide.

Just experienced my first tremor/earthquake (that I could actually feel at least) in Atlanta.

So… is no one else running for mayor of Atlanta? 🫤

So sorry to our neighbors in Tennessee, who's lawmakers have decided that propping up a predatory industry is more important than eradicating poverty in the state.
Bill to allow 36% borrowing rate at Tennessee money lending places at Governor's desk
A bill allowing interest rates to increase to 36% at certain money lending places is now headed to Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee's desk.

We're no longer operating in "gray areas" or hypotheticals. It's very simple and clear what is being done here. This federal administration’s decision to end the ban on segregated facilities in federal contracts continues an appalling assault on civil rights. www.axios.com/2025/03/18/t...
Trump administration ends "segregated facilities" ban in federal contracts
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 still outlaws segregation in business, but the move is symbolic.

Aside from revolution, what strategy to we pursue to take on a completely lawless federal government?

Hey #GAPOL, keep your eyes on SB 57. It's using the language of 'anti-discrimination' to create some pretty nasty barriers for small businesses, banks, etc. to enforce their own private efforts to promote diversity, environmental justice, etc.

Fellow policy analysts, lawyers and legislator friends -- is there a place where I can download the entire official state code for Georgia or any state as a single pdf? I've been on Lexus Nexus and Justia and it looks like you can only export bits and pieces or purchase hard copies.

Take it to the states! Yesterday Kindred Futures met with Georgia lawmakers to share recent findings about the Title Loan industry and other predatory lenders' massive extractive toll on the state's economy and working families. #gapol

In my latest for the @ajc.com, I break down a $1.2B problem hitting ATL & GA: predatory lending. As we head into MLK Weekend, it’s time for lawmakers to push real reforms & stand up to Pawn & Title Lending lobbyists draining our economy. GA families deserve better. #gapol www.ajc.com/opinion/opin...
Opinion: Building King’s beloved community by ending predatory debt in Atlanta
Atlanta, the city of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birth and work, still struggles under the weight of economic oppression.

What are folks thinking about in terms of the use of data to do equity-focused analysis under the Trump administration? I imagine access to census data is going to get pretty weird.

True to this, not new to this. I love revisiting the conversation Mehrsa Baradaran and I had back in 2018. Very kismet that I get to steward this work at Kindred Futures across the South today. Article here: lnkd.in/eBhGDDEv

I can’t stand academia sometimes because how am I supposed to get students engaged in new research when they run into paper sections that look like this and they completely shut down.

Damn this is a tired ass tune and I’m tired of being forced to sing it every 4 years. Throwing folks into poverty to cover tax savings for the ultra wealthy… what are we doing here folks???
Republican lawmakers, policy advisers and Trump transition officials are trying to figure out how to offset trillions of dollars in new tax cuts. One possible plan? Significant cuts to Medicaid and food stamps, report @jacobbogage.bsky.social, @jeffstein.bsky.social and @ddiamond.bsky.social
Trump allies eye overhauling Medicaid, food stamps in tax legislation
As Republican leaders look for ways to offset the costs of a new set of tax cuts, social safety net programs are under discussion.
