Look. At. This. (!). A fungus spore landed on this weevil. Grew inside and caused it to climb to the top of this plant- while the fungus killed it. Consumed its body. Used that energy to shoot up a red fruiting body to release more spores. To zombify more weevils. A mind controlling killer fungus.

Here's a newly uncovered fossil that's an evolutionary puzzle. Its plume is not made of feathers. But it's feather-ish. Here's my story (gift link): nyti.ms/40UUlAP

It’s a whopper!
Poplar hawkmoth, I repeat, poplar hawkmoth. The Poplar hawkmoths have landed. 🦋🐾

Sometimes the world feels bleak, but moths keep me going.

I've been a bit remiss with my moth posting lately, I'll try and share some more to make things a tiny, fluffy speck better.

@maxjtelford.bsky.social I think my copy of Tree of Life has a printing error. It starts with a romantasy story before jumping mid-sentence to page 6 of the introduction. Weird!

It's publication day of my first book: The Tree of Life. The tree of life is a time machine that can take us back 4 billion years to meet our most distant ancestor. It is the magic that lets us tell the origin stories, beginning with this ancient relative, of everything from mushrooms to man.
