“Cancellation limbo”: when you’re definitely not cancelled but not as celebrated as you used to be. This is one reason why “cancel culture” discourse is so tiresome: a lot of people are using it to mean “my life was affected in some negative way by my actions”

Fuck this (realpage settlement, not s.e. smith’s correct opinion).

And look: RealPage is essentially the Voltron of landlords. It’s software that allows them to get together and form UberParasite so that every landlord in your city can extract every dollar possible.
The landlord class is fundamentally parasitic. The very idea of owning land is ludicrous let alone treating is as a purely extractive source of 'passive income' rooted in the exploitation of people who just need a fucking place to live.
The Wrist-Slappers Strike Again - The American Prospect
A settlement with algorithmic collusion facilitator RealPage allows it to keep allegedly ill-gotten profits and continue innovating to raise rents.

The reality, of course, is that Miller and a significant portion of Trump’s base are the ones who failed to assimilate to America’s post-WWII culture of multi-racial democracy & religious pluralism…and they are now using their power to destroy that once dominant (and still popular) American culture.
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization

Whenever local government reviews the library budget and asks, "Why should we give you money?"

We want the library to be able to say, "Because we provide a valuable service used by many people!"

Libraries are like muscles, using them more makes them stronger. 💪
Anybody who is like “Piracy is activism!”—trust me, supporting your local library is about 1000% more effective activism, and it’s still free for you and authors still get paid!

Yesterday, WaPo reported that the CG has removed swastikas, confederate flags, and nooses from a list of "hate symbols". This is both technically correct, and an oversimplification.
