Something I think most minorities and radicals understand which most centrists don't is that conservatives fundamentally believe that all the suffering in the world is inevitable.
They see life as a zero sum game; 'those people' must suffer so that they can maintain their level of comfort.

I try not to think about it much but a bit during a comic I was reading where a mother is making cookies with her daughter really got to me and made me cry because that was something I always dreamt of doing with kids of my own someday and I'll never have that.
