I hiked 4 miles today with a grief group.
I don't know about processing grief, but my legs are about to fall off, which is certainly pulling my attention.

I played "cancel meeting chicken" twice today, and won both times! (I wanted to cancel, but held off waiting for someone else to ask for a cancelation so I wasn't the person who looked like they weren't up for meeting.)
Next time I'll take the hit for the others, but for today, I'm the big winner.

It's windy, grey and ominous outside.
It's bright and St Patrick's Day decorations and chilly inside.
I stretched my legs today, really stretched them, and when my adductors released, I cried a little. I'm not sure what was residing there, in those inner thighs, but it was real.

Re-reading Madeline L'Engle stuff, and The Wind In The Door is feeling very on point for these here times.
Evil is real.
Scale doesn't matter - micro and macro suffering is all the same evil.
We win if we are known in love - by God, and by those around us. Which means we must love.
Even Mr. Jenkins.

My 8th grade kid is reading Pride and Prejudice for his English class, and this afternoon I heard him in his bedroom, loudly, saying, "Mr. Darcy! How freaking long is this letter?!??" and it made me VERY happy.

Thou also shalt not use Johnny Cash to do so.
Thou shalt not spend millions on Super Bowl ads about Jesus when you could’ve used it to feed the hungry.

After a moment of silence, Trump started his remarks by saying that America is grieving for the lives lost.

"We are one family today and we are all heartbroken," he said. He then went on to say that diversity initiatives at the FAA compromised the standards for air traffic controllers.
Without evidence, Trump blames FAA diversity initiatives for the crash

Contemplating a comment from a mentor, that I'm one who takes on the suffering of others before I can work. I can't begin to plan for ICE raids in my church without first grieving for those in my church who are vulnerable. She did not mean it as a strength.
I'm not sure it's a weakness, though.

Crowd-sourcing Episcopal Friends Survey:
How do we feel about the clergyperson sharing their report for annual meeting as the sermon?
A. Boo. No. Two different things.
B. Sure! Makes the annual meeting that much shorter.
C. I think it's okay, but do tie it to the lectionary in some way.
D. Whatever.

I'm ferociously re-reading the first two Fourth Wing books in anticipation of the third arriving at my door any day now, and many folks have told me it's not a good look and I don't freaking care because enthusiasm for frivolous things is a form of social courage. Especially in these times. 💙📚🪐🐉

There is nothing more uplifting than two people who like to talk about trains and transport systems finding each other.

The talk around Elon's salute reminds me of the talk around Trump's mocking gestures with the disabled reporter back in 2015. I had people telling me that I was misinterpreting things then too.
And now, as then, I know what I saw. I know how my body reacted. I know.
