New Yorker. History, art, languages, politics, esoterica. I know enough to be dangerous.

It seems that there is one genocidal, illiberal, brutal colonial country sitting there in plain sight which most of the West doesn’t want to acknowledge. M. Gessen’s powerful piece lays it out.

Just a word to our dear Democratic representatives, there is no “center” when the opposition is illiberal and quasi-authoritarian. So please stop trying to pretend that there is anything to work with in the GOP. They are all beholden to Trump who is the epitome of authoritarianism.

2 things. First, Bannon is an unapologetic outright fascist. Second, he’s got anger/victim issues and is batshit crazy because of them. Him and his lot are dangerous.

The dream of every Muslim is simply to be treated the same as any other New Yorker.

And yet, for too long, we have been told to ask for less than that, and endure hatred and bigotry in the shadows.

No more.
