NEW: Global fossil fuel use will peak before 2030 – unless 'stated policies' are abandoned

Contra some terrible news coverage, IEA World Energy Outlook shows coal near peak, oil peaking by 2030 & gas by 2035 (see chart)

What's going on? 🧵 + cool charts

Upon taking office, the Doug Ford gov't introduced a law to cut the "carbon tax" which also obliged the government to create a climate plan & emissions targets. Now, they’ve repealed that duty—Ontario’s government no longer has to consider climate action.

Absolutely gobsmacked. Canada's largest province announces they plan to scrub a legislative requirement to have a climate change target, a climate plan, and progress reports.

In 2019, the UK made history as the first major economy to commit to net zero by 2050.

But, while the science hasn’t changed, political consensus is fracturing.

We can’t wait to share our new film & to tell the inside story of the UK’s climate target

Stay tuned…

This is such an important area of investigation regarding the midtransition and who will be facing the costs, and how to manage it equitably.
Interesting new paper from @energymorgan.bsky.social et al. "Households that dont electrify may bear a 46% increase in gas bills on average over the next 15 years (relative to current costs). Targeted electrification may help to alleviate energy burdens." #enegrySky www.nature.com/articles/s41...
