For years, all my friends with a child ready for school receive a Parker Victor fountain pen with a converter and a bottle of blue ink. Sturdy, not expensive, perfect for the job. Got myself a matte black metal Parker in London in 1980, twentyish pounds or so with a converter, still runs perfect.
