All the weird religious communities of 1800s upstate NY are fun because they can be anything from a "have sex with no one" religious group all the way to a "have sex with everyone" religious group and maybe they end up as the Mormons or maybe they end up selling silverware or maybe they die out.

You’d think it would be a major scandal that my first reaction to this was “which one?”
You’d think it would be a major scandal at least in certain circles that the CEO of America’s most valuable defense contractor gets absolutely blasted on heroic amounts of cocaine before going on TV and screaming about his stock being down 5%

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Onions and mustard on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched red wine vinegar glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.
Dearest Martha,

Today we endured the most fierce fighting yet in our just endeavors. There were projectiles everywhere and regrettably I was struck squarely in the chest by one. The explosion was immense. But, Almighty God protected me, for though I smelled onions and mustard I persevered.
Border Patrol agent Lairmore testifies that he was not injured by the sandwich, but he felt the impact through his ballistic vest.

The sandwich came apart and "kind of exploded" on his chest upon impact, he says.

"I could smell the onions and mustard."

I generally hold to the John Donne "Any man's death diminishes me because I am involved in mankind" philosophy, but man, some days it's harder than others.

Even if the House was fully functional, they're in session for an avg of 147 days and out for 218.

Under Speaker Johnson, Congress has been in session only 12 of the last 97 days, and he still won't swear in Representative-elect Adelita Grijalva.

These are the people who demand Work Requirements.😐

The decision to kill other people's infants is a personal one.
CDC ordered staff this week not to release their experts’ assessment that found the risk of catching measles is high in areas near outbreaks where vaccination rates are lagging.

“The decision to vaccinate is a personal one,” a spokesperson said, echoing a line from a recent editorial RFK Jr. wrote

The president doesn’t have a constitutional right to impose a tariff because he doesn’t like a foreign country’s TV ad. I know this doesn’t matter to the dictator in the White House, but I thought I’d point it out in case we ever start following the Constitution again.

I don’t want to be overly precious about it, because many people in many non-desk jobs work close together in large spaces. But there is something just miserably bleak about this room.

Donald Trump and his regime have committed at least 20 of those same offenses highlighted in yellow.

/2 The Roberts Court 6-3 majority is best understood not as a genuine or legitimate independent adjudicatory body but as a ceremonial adjunct to the Trump government, like a First Lady or a second-born prince in a constitutional monarchy.

It's official: Speaker Johnson just cancelled all votes in the House next week.

The next scheduled voting day is 10/27; the last time the House was in session was 9/19.

I think it would be a huge public service if major media outlets interviewed people given RIF notices and let them explain in detail what their jobs are so that people can judge for themselves whether these positions are wasteful like Trump and Vought claim or whether they help the country prosper.
