Among the nice surprises in today's 🇨🇦 jobs report: Manufacturing added 9K jobs in Oct despite Trump's attacks. That puts us above 0 on a year/year basis. Compare that to the self-inflicted LOSS of 78K manufacturing jobs in the US. Trump's trade war backfires for US workers. #cdnecon #canlab

Too many people who had similar priorities to my own pre-2016 haven't grasped that the stakes are much different now.

Publicly owned grocery stores and free busses are silly ideas for New York. Accelerating fascism is an existential threat to America.

Silly ideas are survivable. Fascism isn't.
Yawning at the limited government folks warning that a democratic socialist mayor of New York is an existential threat, but who remain guardedly optimistic about an authoritarian president.

Congrats to everyone who put Republicans in charge "for the economy," the first three quarters of 2025 already had more layoffs than any of the years in which Biden or Obama was President except 2009 (when Dems were still cleaning up the prior Republican mess).

NEW from me:

Political hostility, high visa fees and (in the case of the UK) stagnant incomes are making the UK and US less attractive destinations for top international talent.

That steep decline in the appeal of moving to the US after 2016 is 👀
