No professional sports club would actively seek a route that would result in them receiving sanctions and penalties. It should be down to the governing bodies and authorities to ensure that sports clubs are not placed into difficult situations that are not of their making

I can’t see how the Maccabi Tel Aviv game can go ahead now. It’s been weaponised to such an extent from politicians, journalists, political commentators & activists from all sides of the argument that the game now is completely untenable. If it wasn’t dangerous before, it certainly is now. #avfc

Made it a bit hard for ourselves at times but at least we’re through to the next round. One of the best atmospheres at Villa Park in a non European game I’ve experienced in years. #avfc

I’m not too fussed about the end as in the modern game, any touch on the keeper either intentional or unintentional will usually result in a decision in favour of the keeper but my god, European referees are so appalling. He was so determined to be the star of the show. #avfc
