Mostly moths, but then there'll be leafmines and bees and craneflies and..... well, easily distracted by wildlife.
In spite of torrential rain managed 3 Feathered Thorn in the garden. Conundrum! Oak leaf blown into garden from nearby, do the mines count on the garden list 🤔😊 well maybe if tenanted.

Thought I might have used up all my mothing credits on leafminers but managed a late Mottled Rustic and a Turnip. Also found another Ectoedemia quinquella, five spot dot close to home 😊 #teammoth @vc39moths.bsky.social

Couple of potentially new mines today at Baggeridge. Ectoedemia quinquella on Oak, Darren Taylor had one last week, but no records showing for Staffs at moment. Think other on Crack Willow might be E.intimella. Again not common in Staffs. @vc28nature.bsky.social do these look ok before I irecord ? 👍

Ok last night between home and baggeridge traps managed 21/10. A nice Silver Y, a very worn White Point as migrants possibly, Mottled Umber, December moth amongst them. The numbers made up by 7 Feathered Thorn and 5 LBAMs #teammoth

Hi Rob, @vc28nature.bsky.social could you take a look at these others on Grey Poplar from the same batch please let me know if you think turbidella as well, (still a bit flabbergasted with the first one!). Thanks

I missed this was Aspen in amongst the Grey Poplar leaves I collected. So, I've found another Ectoedemia argyropeza as well 😊 #teammoth

Just found a dozen of these on Grey Poplar. Ectoedemia turbidella!!!!!!! Might even be a first for West Midlands! #teammoth

So far, so good, 4 LBAM, November moth, and a Feathered Thorn on the outside, and there's a chunky thing inside the trap which is bound to be an exotic migrant, or LYU! 😁🤞 #teammoth

One for the #tattymoth collection. Somewhat past its prime, but Black Rustic defeated the wogan last night 😊
November 5, 2025 at 7:42 PM
Brick, December moth, Turnip and a very worn spider preyed Orange Sallow😊 also 7 Feathered Thorns so a good night 👍 #teammoth

Mine on Purging Buckthorn at baggeridge, pretty sure it's Stigmella catharticella, which might be new to Staffs if it is! @vc28nature.bsky.social could you check for me please Rob. #teammoth

Nice new mine today, Phyllonorycter strigulatella on Grey Alder. New one for me and new record for Baggeridge 🙂 #teammoth

Opened up a Teasel head in the garden, no larva but full of frass in the centre. Endothenia gentianaeana I suspect, which will be NFG. Need to open up the other heads to double check. Plant it, and they will come 😊 #teammoth

Needs to get under the microscope for a better look, but I might have Stigmella atricapitella on Oak. Egg underside, looks like it has dark "prothoracic sclerites"? Only one found today with somebody home. Leafmining in Endon, takes me a while to clear mum in-laws path of leaves!! 😁 #teammoth

Ended up with 24/8 last night Mottled Umber,8 Feathered Thorns, a Merv, and Vines Rustic. 4 Yellow line Quakers, but they were all a bit washed out. It was just a single LBAM in the home trap mind, rest were all at baggeridge #teammoth

Anyone know their meal moth caterpillars ? Just opened a loaf of bread to find this little fella, thinking it might be Indian Meal moth?
Going to keep it fed on wholemeal and see if I can rear it. Suppose I ought to make a complaint, but well, it could be a new moth for me. #teammoth

Stigmella samiatella, Chestnut Dot mine on Chestnut from the weekend, again all I need to do now is find it closer to home 😊 #teammoth

Stigmella speciosa on Sycamore in Ironbridge this morning. Now, all I need to do is find one closer to home #teammoth

Just realised how late this Small Fan-footed Wave was from Friday night. Didn't trap last night with the weather but the trusty pull of campsite toilet lights brought in a Dark Chestnut 🙂
October 26, 2025 at 7:53 PM
Scout camp mothing produced a Barred Sallow and a rather late Small Fan-footed Wave. Actually, more moths ended up attracted to the campfire, which wasn't good for them !
Camping next to Safari Park, so woken at 4am by lions roaring, awesome 😁 #teammoth

With just a single Eudonia angustea in the trap I went mining again. Ectoedemia subbimaculella, E.albifasciella on oak and Fomoria septembrella on St John's wort. #teammoth
October 22, 2025 at 10:12 PM
Parornix scoticella on Rowan, which would be a bew one for SO89, and doesn't appear to be in SJ84. Not that, that matters at all obviously, just saying 😉 #teammoth

Tatty moth challenge! Open to suggestions! Is a very worn Scarce Bordered Straw an option? Or a "let's not worry about this one" 😁 #teammoth
