We will not blindly follow illegal orders because Donald Trump wrote them down on a piece of paper.
Illinois follows the laws of the land – not the decrees of an aspiring king hell bent on disenfranchising millions of voters who deserve to have their voice heard.

vaccinate your child. As a survivor of the measles, I lost much of my eyesight but am guaranteed immunity. My son, as an adult, just went and received a booster to ensure the 97% effectiveness that he can have with the vaccine. It is a PREVENTABLE DISEASE.

It's hard to describe what a feat this is, and shouldered by a much smaller group than the folks who captured the data. @asegerberg.bsky.social has been chipping away at this database for years. Rescuing data is hard, but curating & publishing it is a much harder, lonely slog. Prepare for it.
Today marks the 3rd anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. SUCHO has now made publicly available the 50 TB of cultural heritage data archived from websites ranging from national archives to local museums, 3D tours of churches to children’s art centers. www.sucho.org/press-releas...

Making a note of this to include as part of the "what constitutes academic integrity and responsibility" in my next syllabus.
Recently talked to a student who admitted to using ChatGPT as a study device - by feeding it all of the class lecture slides and having it generate summaries. So now OpenAI has ownership of all the slides my co-instructor and I created from scratch…

This pleases me (gift):
"I had only one advantage: I’m a historian. One of the true gifts of studying the humanities is not the content we learn in school, but that we develop the skills to learn what we need to know when life takes unexpected turns. So like a proper nerd, I made a reading list."

On Wednesday - I filmed a peaceful protest in Bobst library for two hours.
Yesterday at 2pm while at home,
I received an email explaining that I’ve been designated “persona non grata” and banned from several buildings on campus.
