The first bird spotted and identified on our trip to Costa Rica! Passer domesticus, the house sparrow 🤣

Oh, and I think that was a cabbage white butterfly that just flew by.

I just finished listening to a great audiobook by Alex Hutchinson, The Explorer's Gene. I really enjoyed it and a lot of points struck a chord. One thing annoyed me though, the narrator's pronunciation of various Canadian and indigenous words. e.g. Chipewyan, portage, Iroquois, Regina...

Last week I learned that if you order a "regular coffee" at the McDonald's in Humboldt, it has cream and sugar added. Since when is regular coffee anything other than black? I've been drinking black coffee for nearly 30 years and did not know this. They seemed confused that I sent it back.
