The Rio I’m from is not for the weak. Helicopters, gunshots every night, military operations nearby. Meanwhile there’s people laughing, going about their day to day, celebrating being alive.

Incredibly excited to be presenting my work about Chicago, at Chicago on the "Urban Sociology and the Legacy of Chicago" session (it doesn't get more meta than that lol)
Stop by at 4pm to hear me talk about The contextual Foundations of Neighborhood Trust #ASA2025

Google Gemini doesn’t appear to be doing too well:

‘"I am a disgrace to this planet. I am a disgrace to this universe. I am a disgrace to all universes . . . I am a disgrace to all possible and impossible universes and all that is not a universe," the bot continued.’
Google says it's working on a fix for Gemini's self-loathing 'I am a failure' comments
Google Gemini users said the bot is sharing self-loathing messages while attempting to solve tasks, including "I am a disgrace to this universe."

I just finished everything I had on my to-do list for today (and a few bonus tasks), and all I can feel is that "I clearly didn't have enough things on my list for the day" 🫠😭

This seems like a good time to remind people that the Stanford Prison Experiment was based on fraudulent data. The "guards" were cruel to the prisoners because Zimbardo told them what he wanted to find with his research, and because they *wanted* to help him prove his point.

People will argue that we should be willing to defy the law in the name of justice while also treating criminalized people as disposable. It's incoherent.

In attacking universities, Trump is actively harming American national interests.

Here's a taste of what now-frozen Dept of Defense grants to Cornell supported. Note how much of this research is in line w/GOP's priorities, historically.

Also frozen: grants from Depts of Ag, HHS (NIH), Ed, etc.
