23rd May 2024. More waterfalls! The "too huge to really take in" enormity of Voringfossen, Tjørnadalsfossen, and my personal favourite, the gorgeous Låtefossen, on the way to Skare, then Røldal. The drive from Odda to Skare is magic - possibly the best drive I've ever been lucky enough to travel.
Voringfossen, seen from a viewing platform high above and looking down into the gorge. Not just one waterfall, but many, with excellent walkways and vertiginous viewing points everywhere. Really hard to do justice to it in a single photograph - best just to take in the enormity of it all. Tjørnadalsfossen, seen through fir trees on a glorious, sunny Norwegian day. About 5 minutes south of Odda and just off Rv13, it requires you to hike up a rough dirt pathway... but 10-15 minutes of climbing rewards you with this. Låtefossen. The roar is absolutely deafening, and the tourist shop (the red building at the left of the photo) seems to be permanently drenched... but on a hot day, a dash through the mist is refreshing! The wonderful Låtefossen. The light changes minute by minute, and maybe a couple of minutes after I took this photo we were in (temporary) darkness and gloom.

22nd May 2024. Starting our road trip with a couple of waterfalls on the way to Eidfjord - the lesser-known Fossen Bratte about 1 hour east of Bergen, then onto the very well-known Steinsdalsfossen, 20 mins further. It also has the added bonus of being able to walk behind it. Sensational!
Fossen Bratte, partly in shadow and partly sunshine, on a beautiful Norwegian morning. Steinsdalsfossen absolutely going OFF, on a glorious May day in Norway. There's a pathway leading behind the falls via an alcove meaning you're able to stay (mostly) dry as you walk to the viewing platform on the left hand side of the falls as you face them.

Farewell Bergen, 21st May 2024. I think the picture was taken around 11:00pm - I've never been so far north before so I'm completely blown away at how much light there is, so late into the evening.

Ferry from Flåm to Bergen, 19th May 2024. Journey time is about 6 hours but when you've got scenery like this the whole time, it's hardly a chore. Flat seas and sunshine probably helps, too...

The gorgeous Borgund Stave Church, straight from the Lord of the Rings and largely unchanged from the 12th century, blackened from hundreds of years of protective pine tar.
If you're going to see a Norwegian Stave Church, this is arguably the one to see. Beautiful.

Leaving Oslo on the Bergensbanen train to Bergen, 18th May 2024. Hopped off at Myrdal for an overnighter in Flåm. No offense, Oslo, but scenery like this is what we travelled halfway around the world for... and Norway does *not* disappoint.

The Bergensbanen train leaving us behind at Myrdal Station. All good - we're taking the train from here to Flåm Beautiful Norwegian slab-sided cabin with quite the view, just near Stegastein lookout over Aurlandsfjord The view from Stegastein. The lookout is like a giant, timber drop-side table. Very Nordic. Very cool. The view back toward Flåm isn't bad either... Nordic waterfront living. I could very quickly learn to love it. Just out of Flåm, Norway.

Constitution Day, Oslo, May 17th 2024. Watched schools walk past for about 2 hours then asked someone how many were left to go and were told about 2/3 of the parade left. I've never seen so many Norwegian flags in my life. We may have added to the tally...

New to Bluesky (like a million other people over the past week or so) and figured I'd start the ball rolling with pictures from a 5 week trip to Europe in May/June 2024. First stop - London
Squirrel, Greenwich. They're as exotic to Aussies as seeing a koala would be for someone visiting from the northern hemisphere. Yeoman Warder at the Tower of London and such a lovely guy. Not 100% sure but I presume this is Nyxie, "Queen of the Pawtress" - the Yeoman Warders cat at the Tower of London. She very considerately even posed for photos.
