“The Path of Drawing”
Just finishing this painting called “Living Water” for the group show about the New York City Watershed system. Life in NYC, and all the creative force and capital it generates, would be impossible without the life blood of clean water. This show will be at Equity Gallery (NYC) in September.

The Seven Bridges Foundation is a museum in Greenwich CT with an important collection of contemporary figurative art. They installed my painting “Orpheus” a couple weeks ago. It’s an honor.

Freshly finished from my pile of unfinished things. Graphite on watercolor paper. Lightly edited to protect your virgin eyes. Drawn from life with the remarkable model Andrea Moroni.

Bo Bartlett’s show at Miles McEnery is a must see if you are in the NYC area. There were a lot of serious artists there to support Bo and Betsy 🖤@thebobartlett

This is a portrait of mine done with one of my favorite models, Kimmah Jones, because I love her sass and energy and wanted to create an image of a sexy woman that didn’t take any bullsh🖤t.

There is a show of The Guerilla Girls at Hannah Traore Gallery on Orchard St in NYC. They have been an iconic force in feminist art. Viewing the show, I was struck by just how long, in human time, it takes for an idea to become commonly understood. They’ve been shouting about this for 4 decades.

Noise hurts much more than our ears. A growing body of research documents how and why loud sounds can cause a range of health problems and how you can reduce your exposure .

On Saturday in NYC, I’ll be at Equity Gallery 3-5pm for an artist talk about the show “Pagans”. I have been thinking about the concept of human eras and the question: Are we entering the age of the Post Enlightenment? What will this era come to be called? What did we banish that needs to be reborn?

Happy 2025 💙

I always unearth things while preparing for studio visits including this potential triptych I stashed away in the bottom of one of my flat file drawers at least a year or two ago.

Each work is 30” x 26” and combines Cyanotype, watercolor and gouache.

This is a painting of mine inspired by the feminist political action group Femen, combining the traditional icon of Flora with modern political protest. We are not free until all of us are free. “Femen Flora” oil on linen.

Duncan asked me what’s my top political issue and after thinking a minute, I said “bodily autonomy” so I’ll start my first post with this. “The Dance of Life and Death”, oil on linen, 2020. I am a classically trained oil painter, author, and teacher of drawing and painting.
