Relevant or not (you decide!) this whole convo is reminding me of the time I came through UK immigration & the guy was trying to be shitty w me. He asked how I had come to the UK & I said I married a Brit. He made a tough guy face and said, “That’s not okay. What if I called you a Yank?!”

I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

It's weird to not only have lived through an information revolution but also now living through its undoing, all within less than a generation.
Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

or actually banning repeated problem passengers nope. Everyone just needs to dress better to make flying safe and better!

I just outright asked the last author I wanted to support "hey, which way of buying your book does you the most good?" Then I did that.
I see it's the seasonal argument about why piracy to fuck over Amazon and publishers is okay while many authors live below the poverty line.
