Before I was a novelist I was a newspaper columnist and while I loved that gig, I have this fear that over the course of time my whole shtick would have become a series of unpleasant "just asking questions" columns that would make people want to avoid me socially, I mention this for no reason
Did the New York Times ruin journalism?

Laura Ingraham tried to convince her viewers that by winning, Democrats are actually losing.

It’s propaganda’s nightmare scenario: the mechanism exposed while it’s still running.
Laura Ingraham Tries to Repair the Simulation. Hilarity Ensues.
Within twenty-four hours of Republicans getting crushed in elections they’d convinced themselves were winnable, Fox News deployed the counter-move.

I received an email today from a woman who believes that the MMR vaccine caused her daughter’s multiple sclerosis.

Given my own personal experience with MS, I have looked into this.

There is no association between MMR vaccine and MS; in fact, the study below suggests that MMR may be protective.
A large case-control study on vaccination as risk factor for multiple sclerosis - PubMed
Results of the present study do not reveal vaccination to be a risk factor for MS. On the contrary, they consistently suggest that vaccination is associated with a lower likelihood of being diagnosed with MS within the next 5 years. Whether this is a protective effect needs to be addressed by future …

Secretary Rollins’ claim that the Trump Administration is unable to deliver November SNAP benefits during a shutdown is unequivocally false. The Administration is legally required to use contingency reserves to fund benefits for the 1 in 8 Americans who need SNAP to afford their grocery bill.

"Even at this late date, the professionals at the Department of Agriculture and in states can make this happen. And, to state the obvious, benefits that are a couple of days delayed are far more help to families than going without any help at all."

While walking near this architectural gem to a meeting at the Foreign Ministry, I was stopped by a Dushanbe cop.

In Russian, then garbled English:

“Sidewalk tax.”

I flashed my dip passport.

“For you, discount.”

I kept walking.

Giving into a shakedown from this sort of regime is a choice.
Been reminiscing today for no particular reason about this beauty which I encountered during a couple of extended work trips to Dushanbe.

Americans have been dragged, tackled, beaten, tased and shot by immigration agents.

They’ve had their necks kneeled on.

They’ve been held outside in the rain while in their underwear.

At least three citizens were pregnant when agents detained them.
