I'm declaring a new word:
"sibboleth": A word or pronunciation that a group **BROADCASTS** in order to announce that they are different from a group they are in the presence of.
The opposite of a sibboleth is a Shibboleth.
An example of a sibboleth is "6-7"
Shibboleth is how you say Louisville

I'm excited about getting my next (possibly last?) tattoo.
- my wife's writing on my ring finger as a wedding band
- Genesis 2:23 in Hebrew on my left ribs
- Psalm 82:3 in Hebrew on my right ribs
- And soon parts of Deuteronomy 6:5 in Hebrew on my chest
It all forms a theme that I think is finished

Little aggravates me more than when I see something written in a language I don't recognize.
And that's purely because I feel like I should be able to recognize most western languages.
I don't know why I think this.

I only took two years of math in high school. I stopped after Algebra 2.
My original degree was Foreign language International Trade. Changed that b/c I couldn't do the bus calculus class.
Whole life has been redirected b/c I chose to avoid any advanced math.
Now for my M.S. in Linguistics:

I want a bar with good WiFi that doesn't have any sports on the TVs and instead plays Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, and Marvel movies all day.
oh and the music is extremely quiet.

Your organization would have more success with your design system if you had a 1-week training every year for everyone who had to use it than if you dedicated that time to documenting it poorly.

In tonight's DnD game my Paladin had to deal with childhood trauma and PTSD in the worst way possible:
While underground, pillars of blue light triggered the death of her parents and she had to destroy all the pillars.
With dynamite.

I'm watching The Handmaid's Tale for the first time in 2025 and I realize there's a reason I'm watching it NOW.
Because now it's so much more believable.

If three years of therapy has helped with anything it's that now I can confidently take the encouragement and advice that my therapist has given to me and share it with someone else while I absolutely ignore it.

So if you thought my articles and ramblings about language and linguistics were insufferable before — buckle up, buttercup; it's about to get much worse.

I'm a software engineer, but I want to go to grad school to study linguistics — with emphasis on the sounds and structures of indigenous languages.
I want to reach out to a local tribe and ask how I can learn about their language. How can I do so and also be culturally sensitive?

There's a scene in a potential Terminator reboot where this actually happens:
[T1000 converts hands to long knives]
[middle aged John Connor]: "DO IT NOW"
[voice crackles through a Teams chat]: "It's committed. Building... BUILDING. DEPLOYED!"
