Roses & Thorns
When you allow yourself to be vulnerable in a moment of intimacy with another, in order to deepen your understanding of each other, roll Compassion. Once the pool is assembled and rolled, each player involved takes a turn to use one of the results to make a choice.

For each Crit (8+) a rose blooms, choose 1:
You offer a gesture of intimacy or tenderness. Describe it, and ask if they accept it.
One provides comfort or solace for another, who does, and how?
One exposes a secret or vulnerability to another, what is it, and how does the other respond?
You find common ground in a shared pain or joy. What is it, and how does it bring you closer?

For each Hit (4-7) a petal unfurls, 1 person involved asks another:
What would build trust between us?
What common ground do we share?
What do you respect, admire, or like about me?
What opportunity do you see in me?
What do you need to hear from me right now?
What fear or doubt holds you back from opening up to me?
What do you need from me to feel safe, at this moment?

For each Miss (3-) vulnerability risks thorns, ask 1. If the answer is painful, mark 1 harm.
What about me makes it hard for you to trust me?
What do you wish I would stop doing or saying?
What do you think I don’t understand about you?
What do you fear I might do with the vulnerability you’ve shown me?
What part of yourself do you feel I’ve misunderstood or ignored?
What do you think I’m hiding from you?
What do you resent about me or our relationship?
What do you think I’m afraid to admit, even to myself?

After all dice are spent, discuss if any relationships have been forged or changed. Write new Hooks or rewrite hooks as appropriate. If at least one Hook has been written or changed, all players involved mark XP.

Dice
PACTsworn uses 4 types of dice that play 4 different roles in actions & situations that call for a roll to influence the fiction. When you make a roll, you assemble a pool of dice based on the Threats, Chance, Assets, & Boosts according to the fiction, the opposition your character faces, their skills & resources, and any special situations.

Threat Dice - D4s
(75% Miss chance, 25% Hit chance, 0% Crit chance)
Threat dice come from challenging situations or adversaries. Even in challenging situations, characters have a slim chance of making some progress, or mitigating harm - at a cost. You add Threat Dice to your roll based on the number or severity of the Threats you face.

Chance Dice - D6s
(50% Miss chance, 50% Hit chance, 0% Crit chance)
A chance is a situation, element, or condition that has equal potential to be helpful or harmful. If something feels like it should be involved in a roll, but its effect could go either way or is unpredictable, add a Chance die to the pool.

Asset Dice - D8s
(37.5% Miss chance, 50% Hit chance, 12.5% Crit chance)
An Asset is anything from an appropriate Attribute of your Warlock or your mechs Gear. Each Asset adds 1 D8 to your pool.

Edge Dice - D10s
(30% Miss chance, 40% Hit chance, 30% Crit chance)
Edge dice show when your Warlock has a Hook that applies to your situation and inspires your character or complicates their involvement, add 1 D10 Edge die to the roll for each Hook that applies.

Boost Dice - D12s
(25% Miss chance, 33.33% Hit chance, 41.67% Crit chance)
Boost Dice are used in circumstances when a Warlock’s Relationships or a Demon’s Curse & Overdrive come into play. These emotionally intense moments add a number of D12s to a roll based on your Demon’s Drive, and give a higher chance of rolling a Hit or a Crit.

isses, Hits, and Crits
Results on dice are separated into 3 different tiers that determine the types of choices available. These tiers are determined by a range of number results.
Miss - 3 or lower
Miss results are concessions, complications, or costs you must face as consequences of your roll. Misses often present you with a choice of what you’re willing to give up on, use up, or accept as collateral damage. Misses are possible on all of the dice types, but most common on Threat dice.
Hit - 4 to 7
Hits are a small win, a minor bonus, or minor progress towards a goal. Hits are something that is achievable by a normal person in your position. Hits are possible on all dice, but most likely on Chance or Edge dice.
Crit - 8 or higher
Crits either give you access to powerful choices within a Move that significantly shift power into your favor, or allow you to choose from the Hit list twice. Crits show the true power of a PACTsworn Warlock pilot and their mech, allowing you to perform superhuman acts & show the difference in power between them and normal pilots & mechs. Crits are only possible on Edge & Boost dice, but are very likely on Boost dice, with only a slim chance on Edge dice.
