"Think of the children" is usually a shorthand for "think of the ability of conservatives to force what they like onto the children".
I have yet to see a single government action advertised as to "protect the children" that isn't a dystopian power grab by bigots, prudes, or actual pedophiles trying to shield themselves from scrutiny.
