this one is on my mind a lot.
there's a website that I go on to make jokes like "falling on hard times? I'd rather fall on a soft mattress!!!" and a website where i go to learn about the worst people doing the worst shit, constantly, every day, and it's the same website. its like I do an open mic night at Ed Geins house

Again, there is no plan for running our universities without federal funding, or foreign students, at scale. But the public has no idea about this because no. one. is. telling. them. this. They expect their kids are still going to be able to do all the things at college in the next 4 years, & well:
The entire business model of R1 public universities rests on 4 revenue sources:

1. Federal grants
2. Private gifts/endowments
3. Tuition (esp. from foreign students)
4. State $

For decades, 📈 in 1-3 offset a secular 📉 in 4. Now, 1 & 3 are being decimated & 4 ain't coming back. The math is clear.

Counter argument:

IndyGo is a commitment to public safety. Transit available to all rises community engagement. It rises employment opportunities. It rises us out of the systemic problems that create a need for public safety investments.

IndyGo is public safety.
Legislative Warning from an Indiana transit agency: “A central Indiana Senator is forming arguments against transit funding in Indy, concerned that IndyGo's budget is larger than Indy's commitment to public safety. This may have implications around the state.”

Just a reminder that Jamal Khashoggi was murdered because he was investigating (amongst other things) the fact that Jared Kushner allegedly was selling intelligence secrets to the Saudi Arabian government including the location of people disloyal to the Crown Prince

Which is HIGH TREASON
I think the President of the US responding to a question about the murder of a journalist with "A lot of people didn't like that gentleman" is probably pretty bad.

while I’m being cranky, access journalism needs to go. When the president does his “I’m alpha because I insulted you” thing somebody needs to fall on his sword and say “what the fuck is wrong with you, old man?” on a hot mic. the hero of the wizard of Oz is Toto.

Yeah, I've been feeling a similar deep sadness I think, just about like..... how aggressively, how loud our society is shouting at us all that love and kindness don't actually matter
It's not a sophisticated reaction, but my response to both "quiet, piggy" and the Coast Guard okaying swastikas and nooses is a deep sadness that the compassion we're working so hard to foster in our children will not just be challenged by schoolyard bullies but by the highest levels of society.

I dream of a day when corporations have to reapply for every tax break, contract, and grant every six months, with a requirement that it is the CEO who must complete the paperwork, and attest under penalty of law that they personally did so.
The shutdown was an excuse, not a reason, to go after SNAP.

SNAP recipients have to re-apply either every 6 months or year. Onerous process, with almost no fraud.

There are no shutdown-related requirement for SNAP renewal. But it would predictably result in low-income families going hungry.
Brooke Rollins says on Newsmax SNAP participants will have to re-apply for the program.

Details are still unclear.

The nuclear triad is antitrust, labor relations, and taxes.

Precision strikes include banning stock buybacks, leveraged buyouts, and crypto, nationalizing SpaceX, and clawing back Thiel's Roth 401k chicanery.

But the big sticks are antitrust, labor relations and taxes.
