It’s almost Pride season & I get to see my dads soon! Some folks only have one dad but I’ve got 2 fabulous dads. They’ve been together over 30 years.

Explaining to a country-boy that taking testosterone as a man is gender affirming care. It absolutely made my day. People don’t realize that a majority of gender affirming care is for cis folks. This is why I will have kind conversations with people who are open to listen.
Text conversation where the man says “yeah we don’t have that kind of thing here” and opinionated hijabi says “testosterone is gender affirming care” man replies “shut the F up! No!” Opinionated hijabi explains so is women taking estrogen” the man replied “that’s not true and that’s a very broad definition of gender affirming care” finally opinionated hijabi assures the man “no it’s the medical definition. The actual definition” Man said “since I brought up my T I’ve been less bitchy” and opinionated Hijabi says “gender affirming care helps with anxiety and depression too. That’s wonderful and I’m glad you talked to your doctors about your health.” Man replied “damn you may have a point. I don’t agree with you but I can’t say you’re wrong.”

The Onion got this letter from one of our subscribers in Alaska. She works with dementia patients and decided to leave a copy in the car for each one.

This email made my year. Read it and you'll see what I mean. People are good.
I work as an elder and hospice caregiver, which I am oddly passionate about. I can love on them shamelessly and no one complains about my codependence. It's a win-win situation. Many of my caregiving colleagues complain about the repetitive questions and, sometimes reactions, of the elderly, especially when those patients happen to read the newspaper, especially with the current downward spiral of our country — as if these people haven't lived through enough horror... I love my dementia peeps, but sometimes wonder if there's a Guinness Book World Record for how many times an hour a dementia patient can repeat the same question — it's got to be in the hundreds. At least with small children, they ask different questions. Dementia patients will get stuck on one short question and ask it until you can interrupt their train(carousel) of thought and successfully redirect their attention. That carousel is pretty manic sometimes. A couple days ago, I picked up my mail from the post office and drove over to the nursing home to take (let's call her "Miss Daisy") Miss Daisy out for a drive. Before we took off on our road trip, to the end of The Road and back, in our landlocked little town (Juneau, Alaska), I set my copy of The Onion down in front of her. Over our two-hour excursion, tiny Miss Daisy read that front page at least a dozen times and each time she would snicker, giggle, and guffaw, then put it down on the dash board and, a minute later, discover it anew. I think it was the best afternoon of my life. We don't often hear them laugh and when they do, it's the sweetest thing you've ever heard. ... Thank you, thank you, thank you, for the really important work all of you do. You make the world a better place.

Younger people will be shocked to hear this, but way back when I grew up, anytime you saw a movie where some government official stopped someone on the street and demanded to see their identification papers, that was supposed to let you know they were the *bad* guys.

My statement on the Trump administration's illegal military actions and the wars that must end.
Donald Trump ran for President promising to end wars, not start new ones. Today’s unconstitutional military action represents a new, dark chapter in his endless series of betrayals that now threaten to plunge the world deeper into chaos. In a city as global as ours, the impacts of war are felt deeply here at home. I am thinking of the New Yorkers with loved ones in harm’s way. While Donald Trump bears immediate responsibility for this illegal escalation, these actions are the result of a political establishment that would rather spend trillions of dollars on weapons than lift millions out of poverty, launch endless wars while silencing calls for peace, and fearmonger about outsiders while billionaires hollow out our democracy from within. For Americans middle aged and younger, this is all we have known. We cannot accept it any longer.
