The DC shooting story is really getting to me because we literally trained this man as a child soldier for a death squad in a forever war and Stephen Miller et al want to blame it on other cultures? It's our culture, American culture, that killed that woman.

Two National Guardsmen were shot in Washington, D.C.

Democrats immediately express their sympathy for the victims and their families.

Republicans immediately spread conspiracy theories to blame Democrats for the shooting.

Anyone still believe both parties are the same?

James Bond supervillains threaten to blow up the world with their big laser unless you pay them a trillion dollars.

Real American supervillains embed themselves in the economy and threaten to cause a depression unless you subsidize their sex robots and the weird chatbots they use to avoid humans.

Example infinity as to why polls are unreliable indicators of anything useful.
56% of Americans believe alien probably exists, and 47% — 83% of those who believe aliens exist — think they have probably visited Earth.

I want to know more — do 44% of Americans think humans are the only technological species ever to have existed in the entirety of the universe?
New polling on aliens
% of U.S. adult citizens who believe the following definitely or probably exist:
Aliens 56%
Bigfoot 28%
The Yeti 23%
The Loch Ness Monster 22%
Chupacabra 16%

Utterly ludicrous framing from @nytimes.com here, treating Pete Hegseth's arguments as if they're legitimate. The casual reader will be left with no inkling whatsoever of how unusual and corrupt an abuse of the process this truly is:

Over many interviews, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told Michael Scherer about how he plans to remake America’s public-health system. Can he lead the scientific establishment he’s spent much of his life crusading against?

Heiltsuk First Nation set up video cameras to investigate why crab traps were being damaged. Cameras captured a sea wolf pulling a buoy with its mouth. Then it pulled the attached line to bring up the trap and opened it to eat the contents.

If you stop all the vaccines tomorrow, in 10 years, the rates of autism would stay exactly the same but there would be about 30-40% less children in this country.
Breaking News: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said he personally instructed the CDC to abandon its position that vaccines do not cause autism. The move underscores his determination to challenge scientific orthodoxy — in this case, that vaccines save lives — and bend the health department to his will.
RFK Jr. Says He Instructed CDC to Change Vaccines and Autism Language on Website
In an interview, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. cited gaps in vaccine safety research. His critics say he is ignoring a larger point: Vaccines save lives.

I used to work at a suburban newspaper. Every week there were school superintendents exposed as embezzlers, police captains racking up DUIs, county officials doing favors for relatives' businesses. All that is less visible now, and the absence of shame leads to normalization.
one of the underrated factors for the rise in scamming across U.S. society is the death of local media.
It gets lost in the shuffle, but the Speaker of the House is someone who, by all rights, should’ve had his career ended a decade ago by a Shreveport TV news investigative team.

The total moral failure here is that he sees no difference between being “attracted” to someone and doing something about it (like creeping on a kid). He removes human agency and even executive brain function from the equation entirely. This is a big tell for these people on all manner of subjects.

A huge district court victory for the University of California.

District courts find facts. This one found "overwhelming evidence" that the Trump administration has pervasively violated the First Amendment in its efforts to coerce and intimidate the University of California.

‘Unlawful coercion’: Trump can’t withhold funds or demand payment from UC, federal judge rules
A federal judge ruled Donald Trump cannot demand that UCLA pay a $1.2 billion settlement that would have restricted academic freedoms.
