I don’t reply to anonymous accounts anymore. Own what you say and I’m happy to talk. Just like in real life. If you see an exception, assume I have a good reason.

Bluesky is the only site where I’ve had to post something like this. Go figure.

saw someone reading RF Kuang's THE BURNING GOD on the subway last week which caused me to pick up the first book in the trilogy, which I am enjoying a great deal! highly recommend! lean into serendipity!
The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

I am a relatively successful writer. Each of my three novels has earned out. I have a day job, one that I have had for many years. I will have it until I am forced to retire at gunpoint. If I did not have this day job, I would not be able to write, it’s as simple as that.
I know we know this, but authors need to get better at talking about how they actually make their money. Stop pretending it's from the books.

It's fashionable now to trot out Nixon being ahead of his time on Russia, China, etc - for good & ill I helped start it - but nobody talks about the last chapter of In the Arena, which is pretty much a no-holds-barred attack on elderly politicians who won't get off the stage & go demented in public.

The pristine 1939 edition was found by 3 brothers in the attic of their late mother, who was an avid collector as a kid.

"It's a twist on the old 'Mom threw away my comics' story."

Even I'm not willing to write off the whole promotion like that. But Paul is a prodigy, and there will always be a portion of AEW's fanbase that can't accept it, or separate the man from the performer.

Today is just one long demonstration of the One Special Boy virus that has consumed our polity. Immediate presidency-ending stuff for anyone else from at least Truman to Biden. We're not even pretending to care about the law or the Constitution or any of the norms or duct tape anymore.
Trump in response to an Epstein question: "ABC, your company, your crappy company is one of the perpetrators. I think the license should be taken away from ABC because your news is so fake and so wrong. And we have a great commissioner, a chairman, who should take a look at that."

I will no doubt read and enjoy all your very good Nuzzi jokes, but I also want to say earnestly, so many of us (myself included) are on the verge of being pushed out of this industry and it's genuinely so dispiriting to see the worst among us, ethics-wise, get such preferential treatment.

There's a lot of good content to consider here. Nevertheless, Bluesky remains the most toxic social media site I've ever used; the one where I've been mobbed the most, and where users are the most reactionary and abusive to critics of the site itself.
