Dec 5&6: One of the very first Christmas CDs we acquired as a couple moving into our first apartment way back in 1992 was The Boston Camerata Renaissance Christmas, soon followed by their Medieval Christmas CD. We played these so often even our kids loved “Riu, riu, chiu” youtu.be/sY_q6h24VBg?...

Our Norwegian Forest cat, Henry, that we adopted at the shelter. We had him for 17 years. He was such a great cat and I wish I had better photos of him on my phone.

The tree is in the house and we can feel the intense cold emanating from it. 🌲❄️ It got down to -9°F here overnight and it’s now a toasty 8°F.

December 4: I was thinking about Sufijan and The Killers, and so I’ll share my New Yule playlist that taps into all those complicated feelings of this season, including loneliness, mirth, sorrow, tenderness, nostalgia, and belonging. Available at Tidal also. open.spotify.com/playlist/3qO...

It’s going to get down to -9°F tonight so Alex is putting poly over the chicken coop windows. He wasn’t able to get to it before our last two elderly hens put themselves to bed so now they’re scolding him, some. He’s also put a string of mini colored lights up for them. Stay warm, ladies!

This has been known for years, and disabled people had already been making the connection long before the government under Biden completely gave up trying to prevent covid infections.

December 3: Sufijan Stevens has gifted the world two extensive Christmas albums, Songs for Christmas (2006) and Silver & Gold (2012.) As a first time listener (no Sufijan haters here thanks) you might be like, “what’s this wacky song?” and the next you’re snot-sobbing to Sister Winter. Trust me.

I didn’t grow up taking Advent seriously (I think it might have been a thing in the Methodist church? I don’t recall) and the only Advent treat we ever knew was being allowed to open the little door and see the date and picture inside, and that’s how we liked it! That’s how our kids grew up, too.

Hey, turkey, good morning!
December 3, 2025 at 4:08 PM
All our exterior cameras (no Ring! local data only!) are registering the turkeys as “persons” today, probably because the snow has lifted them enough, so that’s a jump scare every five seconds.

We filled all the vintage pottery, and other vessels with paperwhites. This has been our annual tradition for 26 years.

Remember friends, if you sponser a child/teen this season, get them the exact thing they asked for, not some substitute item you think might be similar or better.
