Coach Mac is the cinnamon-colored pittie-coonhound mix front and center. Trigger, Fanny and Izzy on the podium (refusing to smile bc someone forgot treats) with a side of Tilly the Shih Tzu, who is an independent lady who does not stoop to cheap tricks—especially sans treats!

We are warm and dry inside the lovingly refurbished dairy barn at Dairy Ridge Dog Run.

Izzy on her favorite non-obstacle at the barn. The see-saw!! No treats required but always appreciated!

What is a Morkie? A morkie is a ridonkulously adorable mix of a Yorkshire terrier and a Maltese.

Trixie, 8yo boarding client, is about 6 pounds and prefers to spend her time stuffed into a cozy jacket.

Changing of the guard? More like expansion of the guard. Paisan the gray and white iggy lounges in a blue fleece jacket as temps finally fall. Next to him we have Rocco the teddie bear, both of whom were boarding this weekend with us.

Ten years in and this is the job that supports my family. Almost 60 years in and this is the life I pictured as a 10 year-old surrounded by animals on a farm out in the back hills of the bluegrass state. I am blessed and so very fortunate to be able to live this life—now back in my home state of Wisconsin, which is reclaiming its own blueness.

Wake up hearing Crosby, Stills & Nash harmonizing “Love The One You’re With” as you did as a kid and feel the reward of loving the life you have fought to build for yourself instead of lamenting the one you’ve already had the chance to live fully in a slightly more forgiving human body. 😉
