As I always do with boycotts, I urge: be tough with corporations, gentle with individual buyers. For some people, Black Friday sales are the way they get their kids jackets that fit, shoes that hold up to the weather. Yelling at them doesn’t help the cause.

Anybody who is like “Piracy is activism!”—trust me, supporting your local library is about 1000% more effective activism, and it’s still free for you and authors still get paid!

A toddler ran over to his dog, threw his arms around it, and yelled "TANK!" Then he ran over to me, hugged my leg, looked up at me, and yelled "TANK!"

I always assumed that he meant "you're as cool as my dog" and it's the single best compliment I have ever received.
What is the best compliment you ever received? Putting aside whether or not you believed it.

If that doesnt capture the absurdity and dread of this moment

"People used to dress up for air travel" is one of my most biggest small peeves.

Airlines used to treat us like people, too, but times have changed. When I'm treated better than cargo, I'll dress better than cargo.

I think you’ve hit on something else, I was taught by excellent experienced career educators in well-funded public schools, which is so necessary to building shared civic understanding. These kids have been taught by chromebooks and purchased curriculums that are deliberately flattened.

Without saying "I Will Always Love You", "Hurt", or "All Along the Watchtower", what cover songs are better than the original?

Pet Shop Boys: Always on My Mind
Me First & the Gimme Gimmes: Science Fiction Double Feature
Tuck & Patti's: Time After Time
Without saying Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You", what cover song is better than the original?

something i'll note is that if nuzzi ran catch-and-kill ops for rfk jr and lizza knew this prior to him being appointed as HHS, and instead of telling anyone, he decided to save it for his substack long after rfk jr had made communicable disease into federal policy, that's completely fucked

We understand ourselves as neurodivergent because this gives us tools to cope with a world that is hostile to people with our different natures, not to be cool, this shit don’t make you cool.
I hate how as more people receive neurodivergent diagnoses or self diagnose, the culture still has this mocking idea that people are neurodivergent to be trendy. We don’t receive social benefit from being neurodivergent, at least not mad people. We’re mistreated & at the bottom of the ladder.

It's funny how all the jobs the department of education is suddenly keen to reclassify are all mandated reporters for child abuse. It's like this administration is doing anything it can to actively hurt children at home and abroad.

If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

You do not have to be physically abled to do this. Dispatchers, coordinators, social media, maintaining group chats, or acting as a liaison between regional response groups are all very important skills right now.
One constant, regardless of the city, is that rapid response teams organized by community members have materially made a difference in the lives of targeted minorities. If you haven't joined one of those but you have the capacity to do so, join. Hurry up and find out where to and get to it.
