I need some help with this #familyhistory mystery. I found my #FrenchCanadian family in Chicago in the 1870 census. I found them again in the 1871 census living in Montreal. Theresa was buried in Chicago in 1875. Was travel between the United States and Canada frequent in the 1870's? Any ideas?

If you’ve #FrenchCanadian ancestors who settled in early Montreal, your male forebears may well have been in the Holy Family Militia, established by Gov Maisonneuve in 1663 to protect the settlement on Montreal Island. This article lists men who served in the militia:

I cannot overstate the importance of reading books, particularly novels by respected authors, for critical thinking skills and reading comprehension. If the big gun novelists don't interest you, start small and work your way up. Or read whatever interests you. Just read. Or listen. It's all books.
