Excitement in my Norwich garden when a woodcock appeared in my tiny garden. It struggled to fly, so I caught it to check for injury. No damage, but no fat reserves. Exhausted I guess. It had flown off when I checked at lunchtime

Great to see a crisp adult hen harrier arriving over the see at Waxham yesterday. 2 snow bunting flew along the dunes and a few seal pups were on the beach too

I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

Murky mist first thing dropped lots of migrating birds to the ground at Waxham this morning. At least 2, probably 3 siberian chiffchaffs and a black redstart made the bird news reports, but the real highlight was the phenomenal numbers of thrushes - many thousands.

Rainy and quiet at Waxham this morning. A spotted flycatcher at Shangri la, and a brief black redstart over the Great barn were highlights.

A morning researching for a book on walks and swims for the other half took me to Horsey, where I bumped into Tim H, then a v tame snow bunting, 2 common redstarts and a black redstart on Horsey wind pump. Cranes, great egrets and great views. At Winterton the lesser grey shrike perched in the dunes

Feather I'd. Obs identify suggested northern wheatear (55%) but I am not convinced. Any ideas? Found at Waxham today...

A great first hour and a half this morning with 2 glossy ibis popping up next to us, and a whiff of migration with a few goldcrests and 2 firecrests. John M found a rose finch, which popped up for the rest of us for a minute Quieter after, though 4 wheatear were nice.

A strong northwesterly brought some great seawatching at Waxham this morning. The highlight was 2 Cory's Shearwater - my first in Norfolk. Also, 16 manx and 1 Sooty shearwater, 21 arctic and what was probably a juv long tail skua, 3 bonxies and hobby. On land, wheatear and c450 pink feet too.

A fun morning at Waxham. Redstart, 2 whinchats, 4 wheatear, a few hobbies and a greenshank. But the highlight was a relaxed adder that slithered under Dave!

Damp at Potter heigham. Great views of a bittern, along with 2 spotted redshanks, hobby, spoonbill, green sandpiper this morning

A morning at Waxham this morning with Dave provided a flurry of interest on the sea, with a long tailed skua and 4 distant shearwater (manx?) South, and a black guillemot north. Lots of red admiral butterflies fluttering in the breeze and a hobby too.

Brutal events in the garden today - flower spider eating a garden bumblebee

Nelson's Head Horsey to Winterton this morning. Garden Warbler, coal tit (v scarce where I normally go at Waxham) and a hobby as well as butterflies: small heath, meadow brown, small skipper dark green fritillary, painted lady and tortoiseshell

A quiet walk at Waxham. Only noticeable migration was constant passage of swallow south. 3 golden plovers in a field, but that was about it this morning. A blurry lesser whitethroat would not normally be uploaded, but it will have to do

Sunny south easterlies at Waxham meant a pleasant walk but few migrants, apart from a steady stream of hirundines heading south. There were a few whimbrel and a single white wagtail and a variety of butterflies too.

3 cranes flying south up Newmarket Road at lunchtime were nice and low. I was in the car so couldn't take a pic...

Flying bittern were the highlight at Potter Heigham today

Cool north easterlies at Waxham didn't stop this willow warbler and adder from showing themselves. Not much migration to be seen though

Sunshine and not much breeze at Waxham this morning suited the butterflies, like this green hairstreak. Few bird migrants on the move - about 7 lesser whitethroats, a cuckoo calling, a bittern (my first heard at Waxham), and a wheatear made the notebook

A fun morning at Waxham with Dave, with my first glaucous gull in years the highlight. A great supporting cast of ring ouzel, black redstart, 3 whimbrel and a bar tailed godwit added to the sunny springtime scene

Sunny Waxham walk today with Dave. Black redstart, along with a few swallow, whitethroats, willow warbler, sand martin. Also an early spotted wood butterfly

Potter Heigham Marsh was full of sun, but not water or water birds this morning. Hen harrier, calling bittern and a confiding barn owl were highlights, but few ducks and waders (and a long walk round) due to ongoing drainage works
