the communist control act of 1954 was put in place to keep labor unions from gaining explicitly left wing political power in the US during the red scare. it made being a communist illegal, and it has never been repealed. union membership has been on the decline ever since.

I finally got to the point on a giant shawl I'm making where I'm knitting on the edging... I was not as prepared for this as I thought 🤣
It's not *hard* necessarily, but I've never done it before and my fingers feel like they've forgotten how to knit

The Tuskegee Airmen were the first African American flying unit in the U.S. military.
Altogether, 992 pilots graduated from the Tuskegee Air Field courses, and they flew 1,578 missions and 15,533 sorties, destroyed 261 enemy aircraft, and won more than 850 medals.
